Whitehall merchants and Baker students team up to smarten window displays.

Business owners within the City of Whitehall downtown TIFA district, have collaborated with Baker College School of Design students for a window-decorating contest this holiday season.

The contest is designed to help business owners spruce up their window displays, which is one of the action plans for the implementation of the 2006 Whitehall Downtown Blueprint.

The Business Development Committee comprised of various business owners within the Tax Increment Finance Authority TIFA district, saw this as an opportunity to strengthen connections between the business community and the educational community.

Baker College students Amanda Allen, Jamie Cochran, Jessica Erdman and Aura Paparella were able to complete the window displays in time for the 2007 White Lake Area Holiday Walk held this past weekend.

The window decorating contest will run from Nov. 16 through Dec. 5. Shoppers will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite window display by visiting participating businesses and completing a voting ballot.

Participating businesses/services are Colby Designer Outlet. Corner House, General Store. Hokey Pokey, Home Services of White Lake, Local Pub Inc., Northland Insurance Agency, Pitkin Drug and Gift Shoppe, Quiet Time, Tricia Hair Design, and White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Only one business will wing the contest and the student with the best window display will win a $50 gift certificate, furnished by the Business Development Committee. The community will have a chance to meet the Baker design students as they participate in the Whitehall Christmas parade on Dec. 8.
